Watercolour painting
Watercolour is a medium that I really loves to experiment with due to its fluidity and flexibility. I remember back then at Balai Seni Lukis in Alor Setar where we learn this technique, we painted village scene based on our imagination. My technique was bit messy then...
And here is a red hibiscus watercolour painting on paper..I use wet on wet technique
I should've use liquid mask first..but never mind..
Hibiscus is an interesting subject to paint and there are many types of hibiscus found in Malaysia.

Mural in Tokyo, Japan
I love many things about Japan, their anime, their culture, their architecture which is weird sometimes but they explore with technology..not just a statement..
These are some of mural paintings in Nakano District where i did my urban design project. It is a wall separating train line and housing area.

Quilling:
Just started;
Final product, concept: whimsical

Shredded coloured paper
History of quilling:
Quilling or paper filigree is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. The paper is wound around a quill to create a basic coil shape. The paper is then glued at the tip and these shaped coils are arranged to form flowers, leaves, and various ornamental patterns similar to ironwork.
During the Renaissance, French and Italian nuns and monks used quilling to decorate book covers and religious items. The paper most commonly used was strips of paper trimmed from the gilded edges of books. These gilded paper strips were then rolled to create the quilled shapes. Quilling often imitated the original ironwork of the day.
In the 18th century, quilling became popular in Europe where gentle ladies of quality ("ladies of leisure") practiced the art. It was one of the few things ladies could do that was thought not too taxing for their minds or gentle dispositions. Quilling also spread to the Americas and there are a few examples from Colonial times.
Many quilled art works can be found on cabinets and stands, cribbage boards, ladies' purses, a wide range of both pictures and frames, work baskets, tea caddies, coats of arms and wine coasters. Storage boxes, larger than most jewelry boxes with drawers and/or tops that opened, quilled lock boxes, and much more. Some items were specially designed for quilling with recessed surfaces. Quilling was also combined or married with other techniques such as embroidery and painting.
The craft has gone through many transformations and changes through the ages using new techniques, styles and materials. Dimensional quilling creates 3D items.
Today, quilling is seeing a resurgence in popularity with quillers (people who practice the art of quilling) on every continent and in every walk of life. No longer confined to the "upper classes", this is a peoples art form and the beauty of the art is always expanding. The craft has become increasingly popular due to the low cost of the material. It is used to decorate wedding invitations, birth announcements, greeting cards, scrapbook pages, and boxes. Quilling can be found in art galleries in Europe and in the United States and is an art that is practiced around the world.

Pameran Tahunan Kali ke 21 Angkatan Pelukis Kedah
Angkatan Pelukis Kedah are having their annual exhibition at Balai Seni in Alor Setar, admission is free and they open on weekdays.
They are paintings by established artist as well as some budding artist with piece of art from oil painting, etching, water colour and sculpture.
But the down side is, there are few painting and sculpture were not labelled properly, wrong tagging and such.

Main entrance of Balai Seni..I had my watercolour and 'cetakan lino' lesson here back in 1992..but I guess, I'm still at the same level...not much improvement..:-)

Art Journal:
19th DEC 2010 art journal page:
I prepared the pages first with collage from recycle paper and then made the background with yellow, yellow orche and black for some rusty effect. And finally scribble on it..

I like the overall layout with this tone.
Something for rememberance:
Our 7th Anniversary: 22nd DEC 2010 art journal page
He loves blue..I like blue and many other colours as well (except for floor and wall tiles :-)..Prepared the pages with light blue bakground and then made a circle with cobalt blue (less soluble) to get this effect..and applied yellow directly on the pages..
Paste same paper cutting from waste pape from the office

Add one big tree that symbolise shelter and place to hang on too..

My subject is always old trees and boulders in a mysterious setting..
My art journal entry, inspired by my trip to Bellamy to hunt for ikan bakar, blame it on Garmin, we end up driving thru Chinese cemetery all the way.... :-P
Material: mixed media collage - recycle paper, pencil and sketch pen

Malaysia's Art Tourism Trail
Its a good effort and support of having this kind of promotion for Malaysian art scene, I remember when I was still in secondary school back in the 80's every week Utusan Malaysia will featured local painter in Pancaindera..that was the only printed media (that i remember)gave a space for local artist like Syed Ahmad Jamal, Eng Tay (loves his figura painting with musical intruments), Amron and some budding painter who just retired from teaching profession.
I would like to share this pamphlet by Ministry of Tourism Malaysia
'Contemporary art is a passion that unites discerning travellers and tourist alike from all corners of the world...' Dato' Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen
There are list of exhibition throughout the years and list of art galleries and date of first ever Art Auction in Malaysia..I imagined Sotheby's Art Auction in my mind...:-))
Message from the Minister and on the right is an art piece from Jalaini Abu Hassan - title: Mangkuk ; medium: Mixed media on canvas

and this is Fatamorgana by Ahmad Fuad Osman; medium : oil on canvas...oh I really loves oil painting, the smell of the paint, the way the brush dance on the canvas...surreal.....
